Susan Spaulding bio photo

Susan Spaulding is currently principal horn with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra. She is an active free-lance player throughout the state of Connecticut, working frequently with the Hartford and New Haven Symphony Orchestras, brass and wind quintets, theaters, and recording studios.  Her training includes a BM and MM from The Hartt School, with principal teachers of Paul Ingraham, David Wakefield, and David Jolley. She has also studied Natural Horn with Rick Seraphinoff.

Sue is an adjunct professor at the Hartt School Collegiate Division, teaching brass pedagogy and applied horn. In the past she had been Professor of Horn at Central Connecticut State University, the University of Bridgeport, and Fairfield University.

As instructor of horn at The Hartt School Community Division, Sue maintains a large teaching studio, with students ranging in age from 9 to 69, and is director of Brass Chamber Music. Her graduates have attended The Eastman School, Oberlin College, Peabody Institute, Manhattan School of Music, The Hartt School, Yale Music School, and Ithaca College, among others, majoring in music education and horn performance, with many building careers as music educators and professional hornists. Younger students have successfully competed nationally for honors such as Disney's All-American Youth Orchestra, The National Festival Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, and the International Scholar-Athlete Orchestra, as well as CT All-State and Regional Festivals, All-New England, and All-Eastern Music Festivals.

A native of Vermont, Sue has made her home here in Connecticut for over 30 years. She lives in North Haven with her husband Anthony DeQuattro and son Frank.
