Julie Hagen


Julie Hagen is assistant professor of choral music education at The Hartt School where she teaches the choral methods sequence and undergraduate conducting. Prior to her arrival at the University of Hartford, Hagen was an associate professor and coordinator of the music education program at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, where she taught courses in the choral music and general music sequence and conducted the Bel Canto Women’s Choir. Before working in higher education, Hagen was a public school music educator in upstate New York, having taught elementary general music and high school choral music for eleven years. An active choral musician, Hagen has performed at both divisional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association. She has directed honors choirs and served as a clinician and adjudicator for choral festivals in multiple states throughout the Northeast and Midwest. Hagen holds degrees from Ithaca College (BM, MM) and Michigan State University (PhD).
