His Internship

herndumasHern Dumas spent the summer between his junior and senior year at Walmart Headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. There he spent six weeks as a intern in their Auditing Department. “My first day on the job, I was able to sit in on a board meeting, and the experiences have expanded from there,” Hern says. He also appreciated making connections and accomplishing something new each week in his internship.

Hillyer's impact

Hern credits faculty members as seeing his potential and pushing him to work harder. "Hillyer does a great job transitioning you to the next step. From the small class sizes and great facility all working together to make sure you become the best." He is also thankful for some of the offerings of Hillyer, such as the Hillyer Hawaii abroad trip. Hern says that the "trip has given [him] the opportunity to experience the world in a new light".

Overall, he believes it is Hillyer that has helped shape who he is today, and his experiences are nothing but memorable. "Hillyer has laid the foundation to my success story thus far in pursuance of my degree."

Where is he now?

Hern is a senior in the Barney School of Business, where he is majoring in Management and minoring in Finance. He is both a student ambassador and mentor for Hillyer students, and a member of several honor societies and organizations. Some of those include The National Society of Leadership and Success, the African Student Union, Brothers and Sisters United, Caribbean and American Students Association, Men Against Rape and Sexually Assault, The Society for Collegiate Leadership and Achievement, and the National Association of Black Accountants Inc. He has multiple job offers on the table, and is currently debating whether to accept one of those employment opportunities or continue his educational studies.
