We are committed to making move-out a safe and smooth process this spring.

Move-Out Details Spring 2021

Students should plan to move-out 24 hours after their last final. Residence Halls officially close Saturday, May 15 at noon. 

Undergraduate Students 

You will be able to sign up for a 2-hour move-out window on the following dates: 

  • Saturday, May 8 through Friday, May 14 between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. 
  • Saturday, May 15 between 8 a.m. and noon

We strongly encourage you to pack your belongings prior to your move-out timeslot so you can complete your move-out process by the end of your timeslot. 

Move-out sign-ups will be made available on Self Service the week of April 26. Reminder: Residence Halls officially close on Saturday, May 15 at noon. 

How to sign up for a move-out slot
  1. Log into the housing portal through Self-Service 
  2. Find the date you would like to move in on the calendar. Use the arrows to scroll through the days or select 'week' view to see full weeks. 
  3. Find and select a move-in time slot. 
  4. Confirm you want to select that move-in time slot. 
  5. A confirmation will also be sent to your hartford.edu email within 24 hours. 
  6. If you do not receive a confirmation email, you have not yet selected a move-in time slot. 
  7. If you are unable to view a move-in time slot, it is unavailable, and you will need to select another one.

Graduating Seniors

Graduating seniors do not need to sign up for a move-out timeslot, but need to be completely moved out by 8 p.m. on the date of their Commencement ceremony (If you are attending the 7:30 p.m. Commencement Ceremony on May 15 you have an extended move out time until noon on Sunday, May 16). 

Check-Out Information & Move-out Details

Complete the check-out process by turning in your room/suite/apartment key(s) to the Office of Residential Life. Our hours are Monday–Sunday, 8:00 a.m.– 9 p.m.

If you are unable to checkout during any of the hours available, you need to make arrangements ahead of time with either your RA or Resident Director (RD) to ensure you properly checkout of housing. You should plan to give at least 24 hours advance notice if checking out during unscheduled hours.  

  • Students who do not checkout of housing will be billed a $150 improper check-out fee.
  • Students who do not return their keys will be charged for a lock change: $120.00 for A - F Neighborhoods; $150.00 for Regents Park, Park River, and the Village.  
  • Residential Life staff will inspect all rooms, suites, and apartments after you have departed to ensure you have followed move-out procedures and assess for potential damages.
Additional Move-out Details 
  • Students may have up to 2 people come to campus during your move-out time slot, with 1 person only allowed in the building at any given time.  
  • COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS: masks are required at all times and students who are not part of the same household unit must social distance. Anyone coming to campus must compete the Daily Health Screening on LiveSafe.

Preparing to Leave Campus

RAs will begin pre-close inspections and closing meetings with students the week of April 19.

During these meetings, RAs will: 

  • Review how to prepare your room/suite/apartment before departing campus. 
  • If applicable, identify who is responsible for any cleaning charges or damages to your room/suite/apartment. Please note all residents of a space are responsible for ensuring their housing unit is clean and damage-free unless a resident takes responsibility.   
  • Review how to check-out of your housing unit and return your key(s) to avoid a $150 improper check-out fee, as well as a $120 or $150 lock change fee.

Room Inspections:

Residential Life staff will enter spaces to ensure students have left campus, assess for damages, and assess for cleaning and furniture replacement.

  • Take ALL personal items, furniture, property out of your room/suite/apartment
  • Remove all trash from your room/suite/apartment. 
  • Thoroughly clean your room (mop/sweep/vacuum the floor; wipe down any University furniture; and make sure all personal items have been removed)
  • Remove and dispose of all perishable items (milk, vegetables/fruit, meat, etc.) from all refrigerators.
  • Take all recycling and trash to a recycling receptacle or dumpster. (There is a $25/bag fee for trash that has not been removed from you housing unit). 
  • Close and lock all windows. 
  • Turn off all lights. 
  • Lock room/suite/apartment door(s) and take key(s) to the Office of Residential Life.  Take your ID home with you and put it in a safe place until next fall.
