Josh Young

Barney School of Business Student Josh Young Places Second in Travelers Actuarial Contest.

The Travelers insurance company’s Actuarial and Analytics Leadership Development Program hosted an actuarial contest to give students the opportunity to work on a real world business problem and earn a chance to spend a day at Travelers.  Based on a written analysis, twenty students from across the country were selected to participate in the final round at the Travelers where they also engaged in job shadows, panel discussions, and 1x1 coaching sessions with full time actuaries.

Josh, a junior majoring in Insurance-Finance and minoring in Actuarial Science, placed 2nd overall and won a $500 cash prize. Josh has already passed the Society of Actuaries probability exam, and is currently preparing for the financial mathematics exam as he works toward earning the Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA) professional designation.  Travelers is represented on the Barney School’s Actuarial Science Advisory Board that provides students like Josh with FSA exam preparation resources and underwrites the exam fees.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, Josh is active in various clubs and organizations.  Academically, he is on the executive board of the Barney Leadership Council, the school’s leadership group for high-achieving students.  He is also an officer in the Barney School’s Gamma Iota Sigma chapter, the national risk and insurance honor society.  Josh is also a member of the University of Hartford rugby club.
