April 07, 2020
Submitted By: University of Hartford Compliance Committee

The University of Hartford requires each individual’s assistance and support in cultivating an environment consistent with the University’s core values.  This notice is sent to familiarize you with your responsibilities under the law for institutional civility.

INCIVILITY CAN BE A CRIMINAL MATTER.

A.        Hate Crimes. Under federal law, any person who causes bodily injury or who attempts to cause bodily injury based on the victim’s race, color, religion, or national origin is subject to imprisonment for up to ten years. Imprisonment may increase further for any attack that results in attempted or actual death, kidnapping or sexual abuse.

B.         Threatening Crimes. Under Connecticut law, it is illegal to:

1.         Make a physical threat that intentionally places or attempts to place a victim in fear of imminent serious physical injury; or

2.         Threaten to commit any crime of violence with the intent to cause terror or reckless disregard of causing terror to a victim.

VIOLATIONS

  • A failure to adhere to the University’s civility standards, found in Chapter 2.03 of the Employment Manual, could also result in disciplinary action under the University’s policy.
  • If you suspect an imminent or ongoing threat to anyone, or that a crime against an individual is in progress, then immediately call the Department of Public Safety at (860) 768-7777.
  • In a non-emergency situation, contact Public Safety at (860) 768-7985.
