A Message to All Students from the SGA President

April 05, 2020
Submitted By: James Brino, SGA President

Fellow Students,

First and foremost, I hope you, your family, and friends are staying safe and healthy during this unprecedented time. Recently, I have found myself using that word quite frequently, unprecedented. It described the time we are in perfectly. During challenging times, I always look to historical role models for guidance. As some of you have come to know, I seldom refer to anyone other than President Abraham Lincoln. Lincoln writes, “The better part of one's life consists of their friendships.” During these challenging times, we must rely on our friendships, as together we are stronger.

Together, as Hawks, we will get through this tough time. There will be a tomorrow. It may be weeks or months before life starts to “feel normal” again, but remember, we are all in this together, and we are here to support each other. I encourage you all to stay in contact with your friends via Facetime, Skype or Zoom. Schedule virtual Happy Hours with your friends, play JackBox or online Card Against Humanity. Relax together after a long day of classes at Zoom University, or just talk with one another. Some of you may be hundreds or thousands of miles from campus, but remember, it does not need to feel that way.

To my fellow Seniors, I feel the same as you do. We have been working hard for the past four years to get to the end, just to be cut short. I hope you all are staying in communication with friends as I have been. Additionally, I have been working with President Woodward on plans for Commencement. We are looking at potential dates, and are weighing the pros and cons of each. Once I have more information, I will be in touch. I am also working with SGA leadership to ensure we can celebrate with each other in the future. Nothing will be able to replace “Senior Week 2020”, but you have my word, I will do everything in my power to give our class a way to celebrate with each other. Remember, once a Hawk, always a Hawk.

Lastly, do not hesitate to reach out for assistance. The University is here for you. We are here for you. More information can be found at www.hartford.edu/health-coronavirus

Hawks Soar Together.
