After 19 years, Karen Sullivan will retire from the University of Hartford on June 30.

Karen began at the University in 2001 as Student Retention Manager at what was then known as the Hartford College for Women. Karen moved to Adult Academic Services in 2003 as Assistant Director. Her leadership skills and understanding of student needs allowed Karen to grow to Associate Director, Director and currently she holds the position of Assistant Dean.

Karen’s experience and knowledge of the University workings is expansive. In addition to working with students in the University Studies programs, Karen manages the University’s Beta Psi Alpha Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, the national honor society for adult students, the College Now program for academically motivated high school students, the University’s partnerships with Watkinson School and the University High School of Science and Engineering, and the LINCS program, the University’s alternative credit assessment process.

Karen is a proud member of the inaugural class of  the Laura Johnson Leadership program. Karen has also served on the President’s Staff Advisory Council since the inception.

Prior to UHart, she worked as a nurse as well as a secondary English teacher. Hence, Karen was the departmental nurse, and “editor” for any of her co-workers. Karen will be greatly missed, but she is so deserving of her next phase.  Karen and her husband Keith will enjoy their home in mid coastal Maine where she is looking forward to volunteer opportunities.
