Gabe Herman Elected to Audio Engineerings Society Board of Governors

Gabe Herman, assistant professor of music industry in The Hartt School, was recently elected to the 2021 Audio Engineering Society Board of Governors.  As a member of the Board of Governors, Gabe will serve as the Vice President of the eastern region of the USA and Canada.

“I’m grateful and humbled to assume the role of Vice President of AES, Eastern US & Canada region,” said Herman. “There are so many ways in which the Audio Engineering Society supports audio students and I am excited to work on the Board of Governors to bring these opportunities every student and professional chapter in the Eastern US and Canada; including the University of Hartford,” he continued. “The AES student chapter of the University of Hartford is recognized as a special group, comprised of students earning degrees in Electrical Engineering, Acoustics & Mechanical Engineering, as well as traditional recording studio disciplines. It is truly represents a wide swath of the professional audio industry. As VP, I am thrilled to be able to connect student chapters with all the amazing resources this rich society has to offer while helping to shape the future of AES.”

As Vice President, Gabe will serve the interests of members, professional AES sections, and student sections within the Eastern US and Canada regions while assisting in the development of new memberships and the establishment and proper functioning of all professional sections within the Eastern US and Canada.  

In addition to the role of Vice President, Professor Herman will continue to serve as the Vice Chair of the Education Committee within AES. In this role, Gabe has been active in the development of unique educational programming for high school audio educators as well as college and University programs around the world. This includes the 2018 and 2019 AES High School Audio Educators Conferences, as well as High School Day and education fair events at the NYC AES convention at Javits Center.

The Audio Engineering Society is the only professional society devoted exclusively to audio technology. Founded in the United States in 1948, the AES has grown to become an international organization that unites audio engineers, creative artists, scientists and students worldwide by promoting advances in audio and disseminating new knowledge and research.

Currently, over 12,000 members are affiliated with more than 75 AES professional sections and more than 95 AES student sections around the world. Section activities may include guest speakers, technical tours, demonstrations and social functions. Through local AES section events, members experience valuable opportunities for professional networking and personal growth.

The University of Hartford Audio Engineering Society Student Section is a student-run organization that unites all University of Hartford students interested in audio technology. Their goal is to educate members through lectures, student presentations, tutorials, workshops, and trips to conferences and conventions. They invite professionals to contribute and allow students to share their own knowledge with the group. They look for opportunities to work with other student organizations to plan events for our members.
