New Date for LGBTQ+ Faculty/Staff Training
The Office of Diversity and Community Engagement and Professor Jane Horvath, Special Assistant to the President for LGBTQ+ Issues is pleased to offer a virtual LGBTQ+ training for faculty and staff.
The aim of this training is to advance the UHart’s goal of a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive campus for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community in which everyone is treated with respect and dignity.

Friday, March 19 from noon-2 p.m.
This 2-hour interactive training will offer the following learning objectives:
- Promote an environment in which each member of the University community is welcomed and valued regardless of gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, and/or gender expression.
- Promote understanding, acceptance, and appreciation of our LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff that is rooted in the principle that all people should be treated with dignity and respect.
- Promote an environment of inclusion within the University community through a network of trained students, faculty, and staff across the University of Hartford that support our LGBTQ+ population.
- Understand the unique challenges facing our LGBTQ+ students, faculty, and staff, and challenge discrimination and acts of phobia related to the LGBTQ+ community i.e. homophobia, transphobia, biphobia, etc.
- Basic knowledge of language and identities related to the LGBTQ+ population.
- Current issues within the community, how do these show up on our campus, and the impact on campus.
- How can staff/faculty effectively assist LGBTQ+ students.

Facilitator:
Carrie Robinson
Director of the Myatt Center for Diversity and Inclusion, University of New Haven
Carrie brings over a decade of progressive work experience and strategic leadership in student affairs in higher education to the University of New Haven, including her most recent position as director of LGBTQ+ Life in the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Trinity College in Hartford. Prior to joining Trinity College, she was the associate director of the Office of Student Diversity and Multicultural Affairs at Fairfield University, where she also served as area coordinator for the Service for Justice Residential College program, in partnership with the division of academic affairs.
With an extensive background in residential life and student diversity work, Carrie has provided vision and strategic direction guided by an inclusive philosophy and student-centered approach through engagement, advocacy, and support in her earlier work. She has launched initiatives in support of marginalized, LGBTQ+, and first generation students and that address racial and social justice issues.
