Message from Compliance Committee

July 12, 2021
Submitted By: Justin Bell

US Federal law requires the University to comply with the Drug-Free Schools & Community Act.  As such, the University asks for your continued assistance and support in combating illegal drug use, in both minimizing the University’s legal risk and avoiding personal criminal liability. The University prohibits its employees from unlawful manufacturing, distributing, dispensing, possessing or using controlled substances on the campus and property of the University of Hartford, and requires each employee to comply with each applicable law governing alcoholic beverages.

LEGAL SANCTIONS

  • Federal and state authorities can impose crime punishment including fines or imprisonment upon anyone who possesses, manufactures, offers, sells, gifts, or possesses with the intent to sell any narcotic, hallucinogenic, or other restricted drug (unless authorized by law otherwise, such as via prescription).
  • Under Connecticut law, punishment for a first-time offense varies according to drug category, and increases dramatically if the offense includes selling or attempting to sell the drug.

UNIVERSITY DISCIPLINE

A failure to adhere to the University’s restrictions and prohibitions upon intoxicating substances could also result in disciplinary action under the University’s policy. For more information, view our Drug-free Schools & Communities Act Notification.

COUNSELING AND REHABILITATION PROGRAMS

The University offers an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to meet the needs of the regular full-time and regular part-time employee, spouse, dependent children and/or any family member that resides with the employee.
