Town of West Hartford Imposes Indoor Mask Mandate

Students headed to retail stores, restaurants, and other public buildings in the town of West Hartford, please note the following:

The Town of West Hartford has imposed a local universal indoor mask mandate effective Friday, Aug. 20, at noon. The order shall remain in effect until further notice.

West Hartford has reached a high community transmission level with 16.7 average daily cases per 100,000, which places us in the “red zone,” as defined by the State Department of Public Health. All of Connecticut’s counties are now in the ‘red zone.’

West Hartford’s universal indoor mask mandate requires all persons to wear a mask in any public indoor space. This does not apply to residential dwellings, however residents are strongly advised that they should still mask-up anytime they are indoors with persons who are not part of their own household.

The mandate also exempts persons unable to wear a mask for medical reasons—including children under the age of two—and persons who are eating or drinking.

The Delta variant is highly contagious and these extra measures are to slow transmission and to protect the most vulnerable.
