Hartt Composition welcomes Mirna Bamieh—artist, chef, and founder of Palestine Hosting Society—to Composers' Seminar this Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 5 p.m. (Bliss, Fuller Music Center). Mirna’s extraordinary work powerfully and organically inhabits multiple worlds simultaneously through storytelling, activism, research, human connection, and food.  We are very excited to have her as our guest this week.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

MIRNA BAMIEH is an artist and chef from Jerusalem/Palestine. Founder of the Palestine Hosting Society, her work uses the mediums of storytelling and food to create socially engaged projects through which food/eating/sharing create an innovative and fresh way for people to experience themselves and their surroundings.

Palestine Hosting Society is a live art project that explores traditional food culture in Palestine, especially those that are on the verge of disappearing. The project brings these dishes back to life over dinner tables, talks, walks, and various interventions. It was founded in 2017, as an extension of Bamieh’s practice that often looks at the politics of disappearance and memory production. Mirna creates artworks that unpack social concerns and limitations in contemporary political dilemmas and reflect on the conditions that characterize Palestinian communities.
