JCJ Architecture Lecture Series Returns Virtually Oct. 25

The Department of Architecture cordially invites all University faculty, staff, and students to the next event of the JCJ Architecture Fall 2021 Architecture Lecture Series on Monday, Oct. 25 at 4 p.m. via WebEx.

Antonio E. Méndez Vigatá, Arquitecto Former Director of the Colegio Cervantes de Torreón, will be presenting on, “Architecture at the Crossroads: Torreon and the Architecture of Mexico."

About Antonio E. Mendez-Vigata

Antonio E. Mendez-Vigata graduated from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education.  He has taken courses at the Architectural Association in London and Architectural Rendering Techniques, Mike Lin Graphic Workshop, he also has the following diplomas: Senior Business Management from IPADE, Didactics of Architectural Design by Universidad Anáhuac, and Computation for the Design and Administration of Architectural Projects by ITESM, Campus Monterrey. 

He has written articles for newspapers, magazines, and specialized books, including the book Modernity and the Architecture of Mexico, published by the University of Texas Press. In addition to belonging to the Colegio de Arquitectos de la Comarca Lagunera, he is an Associate Member of the American Institute of Architects in the United States and of the Architectural Association in London, England. 

“More than looking for a style, you want to respond to the environment, climate, and customer needs.” His work has been classified by some specialists as belonging to the current of Critical Regionalism.  His professional achievements, in addition to his built work, include the lectures given at foreign and national institutions such as the University of Texas, the Architectural Association, the University of Arizona, Texas A&M, and the Association of Architectural Teaching Institutions; in addition to the articles published in newspapers, books, and magazines of national and foreign circulation. It should be noted that before establishing his own office, he worked at the London firm Ove Arup and later with James Stirling and Michael Wilford in England. In addition, he has been a teacher in various national and foreign universities.
