Submitted By: Health Services

Flu season is underway and although transmission is not widespread, it’s not too early for students to prepare.

If You Feel Ill

If you are student who develops flu-like symptoms, please contact Health Services at 860.768.6601, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

These symptoms include:

  • fever or feeling feverish/chill
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • muscle or body aches
  • headaches
  • fatigue (tiredness)

The above symptoms are similar to those of COVID-19. If you are seen at Health Services for these symptoms, you may be tested for both illnesses.

If You Are Diagnosed with the Flu

If you test positive for the flu, you may not go to class for least five days, AND are fever-free.

You will be encouraged to go home if you are able. If you are a residential student who does stay on campus, you will need to wear a mask at all times. You will also receive a “buddy” form, so that a friend can pick up food for you in Commons.

Flu Prevention

Take these steps to protect yourselves and others from the flu.

  • Get the flu vaccine.
  • Avoid close contact with someone who is sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing (if you are not already wearing a mask).
  • Wash your hands. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
  • Practice other good health habits.
