Join us on Monday, Nov. 7* and Monday, Nov. 14, 12:45 p.m.-1:45 p.m., to engage in conversations about creating visibility and belonging for the LGBTQ+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, plus**) community. These panels will feature LGBTQ+ campus community members who will:

  • Share their thoughts on how our campus culture can be more inclusive
  • Raise awareness of nuanced experiences
  • Increase understanding of some of the unique needs of members of the LGBTQ+ population

By hearing from our colleagues, peers, and students about their experiences and perspectives on how we can best support this population, we will be better able to collectively foster a more inclusive culture for UHart students, staff, and faculty who identify within the LGBTQ+ community.

Given the wide spectrum of sexualities and gender identities incorporated under the “LGBTQ+” umbrella term and the specific ways those aspects of identity may impact the way individuals experience the world, there will be two panels – each focused on one of these two different but intersecting aspects of identity.

  • Nov. 7 – LGBTQ+: Queer Sexualities
  • Nov. 14 – LGBTQ+: Trans and Gender-Diverse Identities

Register here to join us for one or both of these panels, or sign up here to serve as a panelist or moderator. Attendees are welcome to join us in person in the KF Room of the Library or virtually via Zoom.

It should be noted that thanks to the feedback and guidance of concerned campus community members, these panels have been renamed to more accurately reflect the wholeness and intersectionality of the LGBTQ+ community. The LGBTQ+ community wouldn’t be complete without the “T.” Trans people have always been an integral part of broader queer communities and have historically been at the forefront of the ongoing fight for LGBTQ+ civil rights. Our intention in separating these panels is to increase the attention brought to this fact, but we recognize that our initial presentation of the separate panels did not make that clear. We extend our gratitude to the individuals who brought this error to our attention so we could more closely align the impact of this program with our intent.

*Please note the change in date from what was originally announced for the panel focused on Queer Sexualities.

**The “+” represents those who are part of the community, but for whom LGBTQ does not accurately capture or reflect their identity.
