DEIJB Pulse Faculty and Staff Survey Spring 2023 Launch

November 11, 2022
Submitted By: The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement

The DEIJB Faculty and Staff Pulse Survey Committee would like to thank those who participated in the pilot survey. Upon completing the pilot survey, participants were invited to attend a feedback session conducted by committee members to discuss the survey and the administration timeline. The committee received valuable feedback on the Pulse Survey instrument, and we are in the process of incorporating those insights into the final version. In addition, participants shared valuable feedback focused on the proposed timeline. While the survey was initially planned for full campus administration in November of 2022, given the mid-semester demands on faculty and staff, UHart will launch the survey in January, and it will remain open to all staff and faculty through mid-March. The new timeline will allow participants to dedicate the necessary focus to participate and maximize inclusion of as many diverse perspectives as possible. The committee extends its gratitude to the individuals who offered these important insights, as we were fortunate to receive this feedback prior to the official rollout.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement developed the survey questions over the past spring and summer semesters in consultation with subject matter experts from the campus community. The DEIJB survey is designed to capture all voices and experiences regarding inclusion and belonging as we continue to work toward improving our campus climate. This survey is one tool we are using to demonstrate that we value the many different perspectives of our community members.

Transparency is a core value of the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Community Engagement, and therefore we will share aggregated results from the survey with the University community. Preliminary reporting will be shared in May with more robust reporting to follow. Moreover, the findings will be used as an accountability measure for goal three of the Strategic Action Plan: to promote a vibrant, diverse, inclusive, and socially just UHart community. Additionally, the data will inform our continued efforts to create a campus climate where everyone feels welcome, supported, and valued and how we will move forward with our long-term strategy.
