ANNOUNCEMENT!

2022 Sustained Excellence In Teaching Award For Part-time Faculty

The selection committee has chosen the following part-time faculty

as recipients of this year’s Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award:

Krissy Eichmann

“As a faculty instructor, Krissy shows care and concern for her students, emphasizing both the academic and practical lessons learned. Feedback from her students via the WDYT surveys often include notes such as: “Very communicative and involved with students,” and “the instructor practices what she preaches and provides timely feedback on every single assignment.” One of Dr. Eichmann’s recent Capstone students noted: “Krissy is just great. I was thrilled to have her as my capstone instructor and that continued throughout the experience. She is both rigorous and has high expectations but balances that with so much caring and thoughtfulness for students.”  Recognizing Krissy’s affinity for working with and guiding students individually, we offered her a regular part-time faculty contract in AY20-21 that has since been renewed two times. Through this role, Krissy has expanded her teaching footprint to 6 courses in the academic year and two courses each summer."

Maureen Hasz

“Along with her ongoing excellent teaching with students, Maureen’s contributions extend to the department as a whole. Students consistently note the clear organization of Maureen’s lesson plans/instructions and how easy they are to follow. For that reason, when a new instructor comes on board, the first sample syllabus I reach for is Maureen’s. Her schedule of assignments is clear, well-paced, and transparent about expectations. Maureen works hard to develop the excellent course materials she uses in class, and she is extremely generous with those materials, offering them to new instructors who are learning our courses or even veteran instructors who wish to improve a particular assignment or skill.”

Maria Johnson

“’I’m sure that your committee has a number of candidates that express enthusiasm for what they teach. But the ability to convey this enthusiasm to students is a rarer quality. Maria has this gift. Her classroom is a place that is both dynamic and inviting. She is comfortable with the wide range of abilities and backgrounds she encounters at the University of Hartford, a school which serves Hartford’s diverse community of color. She knows her students by name from the first week of class. The results are obvious to see: her students are engaged with the material and with her and their writing improves—really improves—as the result..”

Helen McPherson

“Through her work with the MSOP students, Helen serves as both a resource and a role model, as many of our students are developing their skillsets for consulting careers. Helen demonstrates creativity in her course designs and sincere dedication to student development.  Working remotely in the online MSOP program from the start, Helen has skillfully faced the challenges of establishing presence, building trust, and guiding learning in the online classroom through her emphasis on the value of the individual student as a person.”

Andrey Stolyarov

“I am grateful to have benefitted from the teaching of Dr. Stolyarov.  His student-centered approach to teaching and learning has been an excellent model for me as I prepare myself to be a college professor.  I highly recommend him for the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award and am happy to answer any further questions about how his teaching and mentorship has been monumental in my graduate studies at The University of Hartford.”

Please join us on Tuesday, Nov. 8, for the Part-time Faculty Reception. Winners of the Sustained Excellence in Teaching Award and the Gordon Clark Ramsey Award will be introduced and their virtues extolled. Light refreshments will be on tap.
