Two University of Hartford employees were impacted by the tragic shootings at Hartford Distributors, Inc. (HDI) in Manchester on August 3, 2010. The University of Hartford Department of Athletics will honor their families with a private reception before the women’s basketball game against New Hampshire on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Ed Kennison,
brother-in-law of Kim Kennison, assistant vice president for finance and controller, was fatally injured in the attack. He leaves behind many grieving family members, including his teenage daughter. Jerry Rosenstein, father-in-law of Ilena Rosenstein, executive assistant to the president, was injured and is still recovering.

The Department of Athletics is asking for donations that will be divided equally between the two families. The funds will be used at the discretion of the families. Donations of any amount from the University community are welcome and your generosity will be communicated to the families. If you would like to donate, please send a check, made out to the University of Hartford, to Associate Athletics Director Jim Keener at the Sports Center before Feb. 23. If you are interested in attending the Feb. 26 game, call the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Athletics Ticket Office at (860) 768-HAWK (4295).

“Both Ed and Jerry performed heroic acts during the course of the events at HDI that day,” said Director of Athletics Pat Meiser.“Because they are part of our extended University family, we felt it was important to recognize them. We hope the donations will help support their needs.”
