PinkZone Raises $5,232 for St. Francis Hospital's Breast Health Services
The University of Hartford women’s basketball team hosted its fourth annual WBCA PinkZone game on Sunday, February 20, and raised $5,232 for the Breast Health Services Department at Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center. The University of Hartford women’s basketball team, athletics staff, and fans helped promote the theme “PinkZone” by wearing pink to the game.
Fifty percent of ticket sales, game-day program sales, game sponsorships, and revenue from cotton candy helped generate a substantial donation from the University of Hartford. Director of Athletics Patricia Meiser presented the check to Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center Director of Giving Programs and Stewardship Lynn Rossini during the second half of the women’s basketball game against UMBC.
The University of Hartford marketing department helped highlight the event by passing out 1,000 PinkZone t-shirts. “As important as the game is, it is equally important to raise awareness for a disease that affects so many individuals in our community,” said Assistant Director of Marketing, Ciaran Cullen. “This year’s donation is evidence of how much members of the local community have rallied around the Hawks and the PinkZone initiative.”
The overall attendance of 1,836 at the Chase Arena on Sunday was the highest of the season for the men’s or women’s basketball team. This year in awareness days, the University of Hartford has raised more than $10,000 for cancer research ($3,442-Coaches vs. Cancer, $1,600-Dig Pink).
