Track Records Five Top-5 Finishes

The University of Harford men’s and women’s track and field team combined for five top finishes at the Solomon Invitational hosted by Northeastern University on Saturday. Three individuals won their respective events while a pair of relays scored first-place honors in the meet, which was unscored.

Sophomore Ackeme Brown got his afternoon started in the 200, finishing in 22.96 for fourth place. He went on to win the long jump leaping for a distance of 6.45-meters. Also scoring a top finish on Saturday was senior Jonas Hampton. Hampton outran the competition by more than 23 seconds, beating out Bentley’s Sean Reagan with a time of 15:02.44.

Eric Flaman, a junior, was the second runner to cross in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (10:35.13) while Kevin Brandon turned in the fourth-best time in the 1500-meter event (4:05.68).

The men’s relay teams also found success on the track. The 4x100-meter squad tore up the track and won the event in 43.51 while the 4x400-meter team took home second place honors combining for a time of 3:28.00.

In the field events, rookie Josh Ugwuneri heaved the javelin 50.78-meters, good for fourth place.

Priscilla Appiagyei, a sophomore, kicked off the women’s events with a second-place finish in the 400. Appiagyei clocked in at 58.30. Senior Marisa Poleto and rookie Megan Barry were impressive on the oval scoring third- and fourth-place finishes in their respective events. Poleto registered a time of 2:21.87 in the 800 while Barry finished the 1500 in 18:38.91.

Junior Nicolle Adams delivered a pair of stellar performances on the track. Adams ranked fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.31) and went on to win the long jump with a mark of 5.30 meters. Also excelling in the hurdles was freshman Rebecca Cheatham who, with a time of 1:10.74, placed fourth overall in the 400-meter event.

The 4x100-meter team raced to a time of 49.78, good for second place, while the 4x400 squad took home top honors at 4:08.67.

In the throws, sophomore Brittany Lawson led the way with a third-place mark in the hammer. She recorded a throw of 43.29.
