Community Day in West Hartford News, Freund on Voice of America, and More
The University’s ninth annual Community Day, held on Saturday, April 30, was covered with a news story and photo gallery in the West Hartford News and with a story on Fox CT television. An estimated 1,900 people attended Community Day, which is a showcase for our campus, our people, and all that we have to offer, and which, this year, featured more than 50 free events, attractions, and performances for adults and children. Girish Rishi, a vice president with Motorola Solutions and a Barney School of Business alum, wrote about his positive experiences when he came to Hartford as a student and a graduate assistant to a marketing department faculty member in the Barney School in an opinion article in the “Commentary” section of the May 1 issue of the Hartford Courant. Richard Freund, history professor in the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies, was recently interviewed for stories on his archaeological explorations involving the search for the Lost City of Atlantis on the nationally syndicated radio show “Rudy Maxa’s World,” in Hartford Magazine and on Voice of America. The interview will air on the nationally syndicated “Rudy Maxa’s World” on Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8, and it will be posted online at RudyMaxa.com. The interview with Hartford Magazine will appear in the publication’s July issue. The Voice of America story was posted on VOANews.com on April 25.
The Hartford Art School recently held its annual "Down & Dirty" "friend-raising" event, in which participants take classes taught by Hartford Art School faculty members in mediums including ceramics, silverpoint drawing, digital photography, book arts, tee shirt design and glass casting. The event was highlighted in the April 17 edition of the Hartford Courant’s “Java” column with a photograph of Hartford resident Marge Morrissey and Lori McGee of West Hartford with HAS faculty member Jeremiah Patterson. Hartt School alum Javier Colon has been the subject of a number of media stories and interviews since his performance on the NBC television show, “The Voice.” Among the stories are the Hartford Courant on May 2; the Connecticut Post on April 28, and NBC Connecticut on April 28.
