Garrels in Hartford Courant, Kniering in Star Ledger, Hawks Lacrosse Gets Major Coverage, and “Arts in Healthcare” Story Goes Viral

The NBC Connecticut story that featured Hartford Art School Assistant Professor Cat Balco and the students in her “Arts in Healthcare” program working on art projects with residents of Wintonbury Care Center in Bloomfield was picked up by a number of NBC affiliate stations around the country, including WWLP in Springfield, Mass.; WSMV in Nashville, Tenn.; WIVT in Binghamton, N.Y.; WETN in Elmira, N.Y.; WXII in Greensboro, N.C.; WVIR in Charlottesville, Va.; WPBN in Traverse City, Mich.; KBJR in Duluth, Minn.; KNBN in Rapid City, S.D.; KSEE in Fresno, Cailf.; and KSBW in Monterey, Calif.

John Kniering, director of career services in the University’s Office of Student Affairs, was interviewed for a story in the The Star Ledger of Newark, N.J. that explored ways for college graduates to succeed in their job hunting efforts. Click here to read the story.

The Hawks men’s lacrosse team continued to generate lots of media attention for their dramatic America East Championship win and for their upcoming match in the NCAA Tournament against Cornell. Coach Peter Lawrence and junior Ryan Compitello (who scored the game-winning goal against Stony Brook) were interviewed in-studio on Wednesday, May 11, for a segment for Connecticut Sports Network’s (CTSN) “GameTime Show” — a portion of which was broadcast on WFSB-TV that night. Coach Lawrence was interviewed by ESPN Radio (1410 AM) for its “The Drive Show” on Tuesday, May 10, at 6 p.m., and Bob Rumbold of Fox CT attended practice on Tuesday, May 10, for interviews with Coach Lawrence, Compitello and senior Tim Fallon. The Housatonic Times did a story in its Thursday, May 12 edition that featured interviews with Hawks lacrosse players Drew and Adam Haig and Steve Groccia, who are all from New Milford.
