Men's 4x100 Squad Crowned New England Champs
The University of Hartford men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up their outdoor season at the New England Championships this past weekend, a three-day event hosted by Southern Connecticut State University. The men’s 4x100-meter relay squad was crowned New England champs, while seven different Hawks were tabbed All-New England in their respective events.
Warren Lane, Anderson Emerole, Chris Carr and Ackeme Brown highlighted the regional championships when they tore up the track and outraced their competition in the 4x100, combining for a time of 41.89, a new school record. The foursome each received All-New England accolades for their top finish.
The Hartford men ranked 17th out of 37 scored teams, while the women finished 23rd out of 32 squads that scored in the three-day event.
Also impressing in the relays was the 4x400-meter squad (Emerole, Carr, Gario Graham, Brown), which shaved more than two seconds off the previous school record and handed in a sixth-place finish in 3:17.37, good for All-New England honors.
On Friday, junior Andrew Chalmers got things going for the men as he landed a spot on the All-New England list with his eighth-place finish in the 5,000-meter run. Chalmers crossed the line in 15:03.73.
Emerole, a junior, turned in a personal-best run in the 400-meter race in Friday’s preliminary round and surpassed that mark in Saturday’s finals. Emerole looped the track in 48.24 in the qualifying round and followed suit in the final race with a time of 48.17 for fourth place and All-New England honors.
For the Hawks’ women, sophomore Priscilla Appiagyei turned in the sixth-best time in the 400’s qualifying round on Friday with a time of 57.96. The South Windsor, Conn., native went on to better that mark in the finals, circling the track in 56.79 to earn a spot on the podium with the silver medal.
