Associate Professor Kathy McCloskey and doctoral student Desreen Raphael, both from the Graduate Institute of Professional Psychology (GIPP), recently had an article published in a peer-reviewed edition of the Journal of Child Sexual Abuse.
The article, titled "Adult Perpetrator Gender Asymmetries in Child Sexual Assault Victim Selection," reported findings from the 2000 National Incident-Based Reporting System. Results showed that adult male sexual assault perpetrators are more likely to choose female victims regardless of the victim's age, while adult female perpetrators choose victims of either gender equally only in the child age ranges. Implications for professionals were offered, as well as recommendations for the correct identification of adult sexual offenders.
