America East Names 115 Hawks to Academic Honor Roll
The America East office has announced that 115 student-athletes from the University of Hartford have been named to the conference’s 2010-11 America East Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll. Those 115 student-athletes earned the distinction by achieving grade-point averages of at least 3.0 in the spring 2011 semester.
In all, 1,282 winter and spring student-athletes from around the conference were named to the Academic Honor Roll, a number which marks 52.5 percent of all competitors.Two of Hartford’s teams, the baseball team and the women’s basketball team, led the league in student-athletes who qualified for the Academic Honor Roll. The baseball team had 18 members achieve the honor, while the women’s basketball team put 11 of its members on the list.
The women’s track and field team led all Hartford squads with 23 members earning Academic Honor Roll recognition. Of the 115 Hawks honored by the conference, 61 earned a spot on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll, which requires student-athletes to earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5 during the spring 2011 semester. Women’s track and field once again led the way, placing 12 student-athletes on the Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
The America East is proud to have one of the most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team composed of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference’s 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors, and sports information directors. Additionally, one male and one female is selected as the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the America East Academic Cup is presented to the America East institution with the highest average cumulative GPA among its student-athletes.
