Women's Basketball Earns Top 10 Academic Ranking Nationally

The University of Hartford women’s basketball team followed up its fifth America East Championship with one of the best seasons to date in the classroom, earning a top-10 ranking in the WBCA’s Academic Top 25 as announced on Monday. 

The Hawks, who sported the seventh best APR in the nation, receive their third-straight top-25 academic ranking and improved their GPA by 16 positions over last year. Overall, the Hawks posted a combined grade point average of 3.456 over the fall and spring semesters. South Dakota State took home the number one honor with a combined 3.666 GPA. 

The Hawks were one of two America East institutions among the top 25, joining conference regular season champion UMBC, who was 20th overall with a 3.374 combined GPA. 

As a team, the Hawks finished with a 3.41 GPA in the fall 2010 semester and a 3.52 GPA in the spring 2011 semester. Last week, 11 women’s basketball players were named to the America East Conference honor roll, including six who received Commissioner’s Honor Roll status for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. In addition, three women’s basketball players earned perfect 4.0 GPA’s in either the spring or fall semester; seniors Mary Silvia and Amanda Weaver and sophomore Alex Hall
