Hartford Boasts Two Rookies of the Week

Two University of Hartford standouts were named America East Rookies of the Week for men’s and women’s basketball on Monday, Jan. 16.

Hartford freshman Paris Carter was named America East Co-Rookie of the Week for men's basketball. He shared the honor with the University of Vermont's Mike Trimboli.

Carter averaged 17 points and 4.5 rebounds last week while helping the Hawks to a 74-73 victory on Sunday at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). He scored a career-high 25 points in his return to his hometown of Baltimore, 21 of which came in the second half as the Hawks erased a 10-point deficit in the final four minutes.

Meanwhile, Hartford freshman Erica Beverly picked up her sixth America East Rookie of the Week honor on Monday. The six-foot forward from Bridgeport, Conn., averaged 11 points and 8 rebounds over two Hawks victories last week.

The Hartford women will play their next game tonight (Wednesday, Jan. 18) at 7 p.m. in Vestal, N.Y., against the Binghamton Bearcats.

The Hartford men will take on Binghamton in a home game on Thursday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m., at the Chase Arena, Reich Family Pavilion.
