Former High School Teammates Reunite, Earn Conference Honors

Junior Kami Nethersole and freshman Jackie Tamburri, who were former high school teammates, secured  two of the three America East Conference weekly honors following opening weekend play at the Army Invitational. The pair was also named to the Army Invitational All-Tournament Team after leading the Hawks to a 2-1 record last weekend.

Nethersole led the Hawks' hitters in all three matches with 52 total kills, including a season high of 26 in a five-set win over Bryant. The 26 kills is two shy of her career high. She averaged 4.73 kills-per-set over the three matches, while also finishing fourth on the team with 33 total digs.

She opened the season with 12 kills and a .146 hitting percentage as the Hawks fell to Army in three sets. She then followed that up with the 26-kill performance against Bryant, while hitting a weekend best .279 (seven errors in 68 total attacks). Nethersole compiled double doubles in both matches as she finished with a team-best 10 digs against the Black Knights and 16 digs. She then rounded out the weekend with 14 kills and seven digs against the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Tamburri, playing in her first collegiate matches, finished with 123 total assists while amassing 35 digs, third most on the team. Tamburri also finished with double doubles in the first two matches of the season. She opened her collegiate career with 29 assists and 10 digs in the three set match against the host Black Knights. 
Tamburri set her career-mark in the second match of the weekend when she finished with 63 assists in the five-set win over the Bulldogs. She also shined defensively, finishing with 18 digs, second most on the team. In the final match of the weekend, she finished with 31 assists and seven digs.
