Karen Lucas Breda, associate professor of nursing in the School of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, traveled to Florianopolis in the province of Santa Catarina, Brazil, to participate in two international nursing conferences sponsored by the Organization of American States.
Breda presented on "Neoliberal Reform and the Role of Nursing Leadership in Drug Demand Reduction: The U.S. Case" at the third International Nursing Leadership Institute on the Drug Phenomenon in Latin America. She also gave a short course on "Understanding Ethnography" at the second International Nursing Research Forum on the Drug Phenomenon in Latin America. The August 2005 conference was well attended by nursing researchers and scholars from across Latin America. Breda was one of two United States scholars present.
