Roye Earns Men's Soccer Rookie-of-the-Week Award
University of Hartford freshman Rohan Roye scored this season’s first weekly honor for a Hawks’ men’s soccer player when he was named the America East Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. Roye, who recorded two goals last weekend at the Courtyard by Marriott Classic hosted by UNC-Wilmington, picked up Hartford’s first rookie of the week accolade since teammate Patrick Boucher received the honor on October 6, 2008.
Roye started his collegiate career off with a bang, scoring in each of his first two games in a Hawks’ uniform. In his first collegiate appearance, the forward came off the bench and scored off a header in the 62nd minute of a 2-1 loss to UNC-Wilmington. The goal snapped a 290 minute scoring drought for Hartford and was the team’s first tally since its season opener, a 1-0 victory over Siena on September 1.
After earning his first collegiate start against Campbell on Sunday, Roye converted on a penalty kick in the 67th minute in Hartford’s 3-2 setback to the Camels. The freshman was named to the Courtyard by Marriott Classic’s All-Tournament Team along with classmate Atobra Ampadu. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, Roye now leads the Hawks in scoring with two goals.
