Junior Golfer Takes Home Tournament Title
Junior golfer Sarah Sideranko picked up her first individual medal of the season, finishing first by five strokes at the Dartmouth Invitational this past weekend. Sideranko led the Hawks to a third-place team finish, 12 strokes behind the host Big Green who won the team title.
Sideranko posted the lowest round of all golfers in the two-round event with a one-under par 71 over the first 18 holes. Her low of 71 at Dartmouth matches her career low, which she set during her freshman season at the ECAC Division I Championships. She finished the weekend with a 36-hole total of 149, a two-round career low for the New Britain, Conn., native.
Sophomore Aubrey Ungvarsky also posted a career-best two-round score of 159 as she finished second for the Hawks and eighth overall for the tournament. Ungvarsky matched Sideranko’s second round total of 78, the lowest for the Hawks over the final 18 holes, setting her new career-low individual round.
Senior Marissa Kallaugher finished third overall for the Hawks with her 36-hole score of 166, also a career-low for a two -round event. Kallaugher opened the weekend with an 82 and rounded out the event on Sunday with an 84 to finish tied for 23rd in the overall standings. Rounding out the Hawks scorers was senior Emily Linn who finished tied for 26th place overall with a final score of 168 after improving her second round by six strokes, finishing the weekend with an 81 over the final 18 holes.
Kirsten LaPointe completed her first event of the fall, finishing the invitational tied for 39th place overall with a final score of 175. LaPointe finished Saturday’s first round with an 86 and closed out the weekend with an 89 on Sunday.
The women’s golf team will next compete at the ECAC Division I Championhips the first weekend of October at the Twisted Dunes Country Club in Egg Harbor Township, N.J. Sideranko looks to return to the top of the leader board after earning medalist honors at the ECAC Championships as a freshman on the same course.
