Shetty and Hill Publish Paper
Devdas Shetty, professor of mechanical engineering, and Jonathan Hill, associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, CETA, had a paper published in the International Journal of Precision Engineering and Manufacturing (IJPEM), along with Ahad Ali of Lawrence Technological University in Michigan.
The paper, published in June 2011, is titled, "Optical Instrumentation for Vibration Measurement and Monitoring." IJPEM is a respected journal in the area of precision engineering. The article deals with the research on developing a methodology for low-cost vibration analysis. This paper examines the role of vibration monitoring in manufacturing systems, especially in machine tool operations, and proposes a simple and reliable method using laser instrumentation.
The paper outlines the design of such instrument using mechatronics technology with embedded measurement. The paper also provides an analysis of the experimented data and provides recommendations for using this device for applications beyond machine tool vibration monitoring.
