Joseph Comeau, director of Student Centers and Activities, along with 15 other university union directors from around the country, has been appointed to the Core Competency Implementation Team for the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).
ACUI is the oldest professional association in higher education, serving college union and student activities personnel.
ACUI originally explored core competencies through a 1996-98 Ad Hoc Committee on Accreditation and Credentialing, of which Comeau was a member. The association has identified 11 core competencies. These areas include student learning, intercultural proficiency, communication, marketing, facilities management, human resource development, leadership, fiscal management, planning, technology, and daily operations management (including facilities, programs, and services).
As an implementation team member, Comeau will assist with the operational work of implementing these recommendations into ACUI’s educational curriculum for membership approval by Feb. 1, 2007.
