Harrison in Hartford Courant, Greenberg Center Highlighted in CT Jewish Ledger, Sekou on “Stan Simpson Show,” and More
University President Walter Harrison was quoted in a front-page story on the Monday, Sept. 26, edition of the Hartford Courant that looked at the role that a university’s academic rankings play in determining how it fits into a particular athletic conference. Harrison was also quoted in a Wednesday, Sept. 21, article by Courant columnist Jeff Jacobs about how greed is driving the dramatic changes in collegiate athletic conferences. A number of stories, as well as the cover illustration, of the Friday, Sept. 16 issue of the Connecticut Jewish Ledger were devoted to the 25th anniversary of the University’s Maurice Greenberg Center for Judaic Studies. This article explored the history of the Greenberg Center and looked at what plans are in the works for the future of the Greenberg Center. There was also a question-and-answer interview with Greenberg Center founder Arnold C. Greenberg. In addition, there was a news story about Greenberg Center Director Richard Freund being named a Connecticut Quality Improvement Award Gold Winner.

Two Hartt School alumns — Kevin Duda (‘01) and Douglas Lyons (’09) —were featured in a Hartford Courant story that ran on the front page of the “Arts” section on Sunday, Sept. 25. Wick Griswold, associate professor of sociology in Hillyer College, and his “Sociology of the Connecticut River” class were featured in an article of the Monday, Sept. 26, edition of The Day of New London. The article is about efforts to clean-up the Connecticut River, which has been made more difficult because of damage caused by Tropical Storm Irene. Click here to read the story.
Tom Zemon, an actor who was raised in West Hartford and attended The Hartt School, is featured on one of those insanely popular, very loopy, very viral Old Spice commercials.
