Women's Soccer Continues its Incredible Run
A goal in the first 90 seconds of the game from junior Amélia Pereira would turn out to be the only one needed by the University of Hartford women's soccer team as it went on to collect its third shutout in league play and ninth shutout overall, defeating New Hampshire 3-0 on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 2) at Alumni Stadium.
The undefeated Hawks improve to an impressive 10-0-2 on the year and 3-0 in America East action. That is the best start in program history, surpassing an 8-0 start for the 1995 Hawks, who went on to win a conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
On Monday (Oct. 3), the University of Hartford women’s soccer team moved up to fifth place in the Northeast Region rankings put out by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. The Hawks are the only undefeated team among the top 10 in the Northeast Region.
In addition, sophomore keeper Erin Quinlan became the Hawks' first repeat honoree of the season when she was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Quinlan earned co-Player of the Week honors on Sept. 19. Quinlan’s recognition on Monday marks the third-straight week that the Hawks have received a weekly conference honor.
Next up for the Hawks is a home game against Stony Brook on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. at Al-Marzook Field at Alumni Stadium.
