Three's a Charm for Freshman Volleyball Standout
Freshman Jackie Tamburri scored her team-best third conference honor when she was named the America East Rookie of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.
The Rookie of the Week honor is the first of its kind for the rookie setter, while fellow classmate Sareeta Nethersole earned the same honor on September 19. Tamburri has been named Setter of the Week on two occasions this season on August 30 and September 26.
Tamburri finished the only match of the week for the Hawks with a 56 assists and 14 digs, her team best 16th double double of the season, against the first place New Hampshire Wildcats. For the match, a five set loss for Hartford, Tamburri averaged 11.20 assists and 2.80 digs per set.
With the 56 assists against New Hampshire, Tamburri is now 23 shy of becoming the third player in school history to compile at least 1,000 assists in a season since the start of rally scoring. She will join Danielle Scoggin who finished with 1,194 assists in 2002, and Brianne Paulson who finished with 1,089 in 2003.
For the season, Tamburri ranks second in the America East with 10.07 assists per set and ninth in the league with 2.94 digs per set.
