Posted 2/2/2006
The Hawks clinched their 10th consecutive win Wednesday night with a 73-55 victory on the road at the University of Maine. It is the longest winning streak in the history of Hartford's Division I women's basketball program.
Wednesday's win brings the Hawks' overall record to 16-2. They remain unbeaten in America East Conference play, with an 8-0 record.
The team's outstanding season is raising its national profile. For each of the past two weeks, Hartford has received two votes in the Associated Press Top 25 Women's College Basketball Poll.
The Hawks will look to continue their success when they take on Vermont on Saturday, at 2 p.m., at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion, Sports Center.
All children (15 and under) will get free admission to the game with the purchase of an adult ticket. Kids also will receive a special Hartford Hawks giveaway, and members of the women's basketball team will sign autographs after the game.
There also will be a special pre-game ceremony honoring senior Erika Messam, who recently became the eighth player in Hartford women's basketball history to score 1,000 points in her career.
University of Hartford faculty and staff can get tickets to the game for as little as $4 each. All regular season home games are free for University of Hartford students.
