Accolades: Connie Coles
Posted 2/2/2006
Connie Coles, program director of the Educational Main Street College Highway Initiative, will be honored for her community service, together with eight other outstanding African American leaders, at the Allstate Insurance 2006 Black History Month Award Celebration on Saturday, Feb. 4, at La Renaissance in East Windsor, Conn.
From 1991 to 2005, Coles was director of Say Yes to Education, a highly successful program housed on the University of Hartford campus providing academic support to 74 Hartford students, as they matured from 5th graders at Annie Fisher Elementary School to college graduates. The program ended in May 2005, as the last eligible student graduated from college.
“Educational Main Street was very pleased and very fortunate to have Connie join its staff in July of 2005,” said EMS Director Mary Christensen. “Her expertise working with at-risk students has been invaluable to all the EMS projects, including the one she directs. All of us at EMS and in the College of ENHP are proud of Connie and her work on behalf of the children of Hartford’s North End.”
