Hartford Hawks head women’s basketball coach Jennifer Rizzotti has been named the 2011 coach of the year by USA Basketball, according to a blog post by Mike Anthony of the Hartford Courant on Friday, Jan. 6. The award is in recognition of an impressive, gold-medal performance by her team at the 2011 FIBA U19 World Championship for Women, as well as leading the USA team to a gold medal at the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship. Virginia Hale, professor emerita of English at the University, and her biography of Beatrice Fox Auerbach, A Woman in Business: The Life of Beatrice Fox Auerbach were cited by Hartford Courant columnist Susan Campbell in an “Opinion” section article in the Sunday, Jan. 1, issue of the Courant. The “Music Discovery Day” program hosted recently by the Hartt School Community Division was the subject of a full page of photos and a story in the Hartford Courant’s “My Towns” section on Sunday, Jan. 1.

Mitchell Weiss, an adjunct faculty member in the Barney School of Business and co-founder of the Center for Personal Financial Responsibility at the University, was quoted in a story about the increasing amount of student loan debt being taken on by nontraditional aged students that was distributed by the Reuters wire service.
