Small Fire in Regents Park
Posted 2/13/2006
Vice President for Student Affairs J. Lee Peters sent the following email Monday morning to students, faculty, and staff concerning a small fire over the weekend in Regents Park East.
To the University of Hartford Campus Community,
On Sunday evening, Feb. 12, at around 5 p.m. a small fire ignited in a student’s room on the second floor of Regents Park East. All fire suppression and warning systems functioned appropriately, the building was evacuated, the Hartford Fire Department responded, the fire was quickly extinguished and no one was injured. We are awaiting official notice from the Hartford fire investigators on the cause of the fire.
As a result of water damage caused by the sprinkler system and minor fire damage to one of the rooms, 14 students have had to be temporarily relocated. The rest of the Regents Park East residents were allowed back in their rooms at around 9:30 p.m. after water was cleaned up and power and fire systems were restored.
Given the disruption to the lives of all Regents Park residents, I am sure that faculty and staff members will be supportive as they get back into their student routines.
I want to thank the students of Regents Park for their calm response to the situation, and the staff members of Public Safety, Facilities, and Residence Life who responded and assisted with the aftermath of the fire.
More information will be forthcoming as available.
Sincerely,
Dr. J. Lee Peters
