Accolades: Janet Kremenitzer

Janet Pickard Kremenitzer, assistant professor of education and coordinator of elementary education, ENHP, recently presented a paper at the 2006 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education (AACTE) held in San Diego, Calif. The paper was titled “Emotional Intelligence Ability and the Teacher Candidate: A new focus on the disposition of reflective practice.”

Kremenitzer’s paper was part of a symposium on “The Importance of Dispositions in Teacher Education" and helped to highlight the theme of the conference, "Creating New Visions for Teacher Education." AACTE is a national association of higher education institutions and is dedicated to ensuring the highest quality preparation and continuing professional development for teachers and school leaders in order to enhance PreK-12 student learning. The stated goals of AACTE are:

• Unify the membership through evidence-based information about educator preparation;
• Advocate for high quality in student learning;
• Strengthen programs that prepare educators who can teach every child effectively; and
• Increase the diversity of education candidates and improve programs' curriculum to ensure that all educators can serve diverse students.

Kremenitzer was also acknowledged in the conference program for serving as a proposal reviewer by the committee on professional development.
