Track and Field Teams Pick Up 7 Individual Victories
The University of Hartford track and field teams picked up seven individual victories, two relay victories, and broke a pair of school records at the Springfield College Invitational Saturday.
The Hawk women scored 154 points on the afternoon to finish third overall as a team, while the men finished fourth overall with 111 total points.
“We progressed a lot since the last meet,” said assistant coach Mike DuPaul. “Last week, we were just getting back into things after seven weeks off for break. This week we came out and really showed who we are.”
For the women, freshman Tiffany Harrison had a record-setting day. She paced the Hawks in the 400-meter dash, picking up first place with a time of 59.26. The time broke the facility record for the Springfield College Fieldhouse.
Harrison led a trio of Hawks with top-10 finishes in the event. Juniors Priscilla Appiagyei and Natalie Bonham finished third and ninth, respectively. Harrison, Appiagyei, Bonham and freshman Merrica Modeste ran their way to a school-record in the 4x200-meter relay. The foursome won the event with a record time of 1:46.99.
On the men's side, senior sprinter Anderson Emerole picked up wins in both the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Emerole was one of three Hawks to score points in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line first in a time of 22.91 seconds. Sophomores Gario Graham and Ansu Diggs finished seventh and eighth in the event, respectively. Emerole paced the field in the 400-meter dash while Graham finished seventh in that race.
Emerole, Graham, Diggs, and sophomore Rashawn Providence led the Hawks to a win in the 4x200-meter relay, posting a time of 1:34.18.
