University student Alessandra Cabral testified before state legislators on Tuesday, Feb. 21, in opposition to Gov. Dan Malloy’s proposed cuts in the Connecticut Independent College Student Grant program, which provided need-based scholarships last year to more than 5,400 Connecticut residents attending private colleges and universities in the state. The Hartford Courant did a story on Wednesday, Feb. 15, about an experiment involving osteoporosis that is scheduled to fly on the SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft, possibly this spring. The experiment is being developed collaboratively by a team of students from the Annie Fisher STEM Magnet School and the University High School of Science and Engineering, along with Rob Lipski, a University of Hartford senior majoring in biology. The team has been developing their experiment in a laboratory at the University with the assistance of Aime Levesque, an assistant professor of biology in the University’s College of Arts and Sciences and one of the team's mentors.
