Women's Golf Opens Spring With Victory in Florida

The University of Hartford women’s golf team opened its spring schedule in solid fashion, defeating Hope College Wednesday in a head-to-head two-day match, 680-714, picking up the top four spots in the final standings in the process.

The two-day match took place on two separate courses in Port St. Lucie. Competition began Tuesday at the Saints Golf Course and concluded Wednesday at the PGA Village on the Wanamaker Course.

Sarah Sideranko paced the Hawks over the two-day matchup, posting a two-round score of 160, eight strokes ahead of the rest of the field. Sideranko was in front both days, scoring an 82 in the first round before carding a second-round 78, the lowest single-round score in the field over the two days. Senior Marissa Kallaugher tied Sideranko with an 82 through the first 18 holes. She carded an 86 in the second round for a two-day score of 168, good for second place.

Sophomore Aubrey Ungvarsky finished third overall, posting a first-round score of 85 and a second-round 91 for a final total of 176. Junior Kirsten LaPointe finished one stroke behind Ungvarsky for the match, carding an 88 on day one and an 89 on day two. Senior Emily Linn rounded out the Hartford squad with a 36-hole score of 182. Linn scored a 91 on each day to finish in a tie for seventh place.

The Hawks resume their spring schedule in the Northeast March 30-April 1 at the Monmouth Invitational in Lakewood, N.J. The Hawks host the Hartford Invitational April 15-17 at the Rockledge Golf Course in West Hartford, Conn., before returning to the Sunshine State April 26-29 for the MAAC Conference Championship.
