Hawks Lacrosse Players Sweep Weekly Honors
University of Hartford men’s lacrosse team members swept the America East weekly awards announced March 19 after leading the Hawks to a win over Quinnipiac the previous Saturday and a 17-goal performance against Siena three days earlier.
For the first time this season, Carter Bender was named the league’s Player of the Week while Ty Schuldt grabbed his first-ever weekly honor when he was tabbed the America East’s Rookie of the Week.
Bender, an honorable mention All-American last season who earned preseason recognition this year, compiled 13 points on eight goals and five assists during the week.
Despite combining for just two points, Schuldt, a face-off specialist from Yorktown Heights, N.Y., played a key role in sparking Hartford’s offense in the two games. The rookie won 59.6 percent of his draws (34-for-57) and combined for 10 ground balls.
