Hawks Finish Third at MAAC Women's Golf Championship

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Junior Sarah Sideranko finished in a tie for second place in the field and sophomore Aubrey Ungvarsky notched fourth place to lead the University of Hartford women’s golf team to a third-place team finish at the 2012 MAAC Championship at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course on Sunday (April 29).

The Hawks carded a combined 329 in Sunday’s final round, matching the team output from Friday’s opening round. The women finished the tournament with a three-round team score of 1,000. The Hawks finished eight strokes behind second-place Fairfield and 61 strokes behind champion Siena.

Sideranko, who started the day two strokes out of second place, shot a 77 in the final round to pick up a spot in the standings and finish in a tie for second place. The junior finished with a 54-hole score of 233.

Ungvarsky shot her best round on the championship’s final day. Ungvarsky completed her round in 79 strokes, improving on her round-two score by two strokes. Ungvarsky held her fourth-place slot throughout the tournament, notching a final score of 240.

Senior Emily Linn improved on her second-round score by four strokes, closing the tournament with a final round of 86. Linn finished tied for 20th in the final standings with a score of 261.

Senior Marissa Kallaugher notched her best round on the tournament’s last day. Kallaugher carded an 87 Sunday to finish with a 267 for the tournament. Junior Kirsten LaPointe finished with a 269 after a final-round 90.

At the conclusion of championship play, the MAAC announced its 2012 All-Academic honorees. The Hawks placed five members on the All-Academic list. Sideranko, Ungvarsky and LaPointe earned All-Academic distinction along with Elizabeth Creighton and Claire Crouch.
