Hartford Women Advance to Semifinals

The top-seeded Hartford Hawks advanced to the semifinals of the 2006 Friendship Cottage Cheese America East Women’s Basketball Championship Friday evening with a 58-35 win over No. 8 Maine. The Hartford women held Maine to the fewest field goals and the third-lowest point total in conference tournament history. Hartford will play in the second of two semifinal games on Saturday afternoon (March 11). The game is expected to start between 3 and 3:30 p.m., at the Chase Arena in the Reich Family Pavilion (Sports Center).
University of Hartford students can attend the semifinal game for FREE, courtesy of the Office of Student Affairs and the President’s Office. Students can pick up their free tickets any time after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Athletics Box Office in the Sports Center. Be sure to bring your student ID.
The Hawks are hoping to win their second straight America East Championship and subsequent bid to the NCAA tournament.
The winners of Saturday’s two semifinal contests will meet in the championship game on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Chase Arena. If the Hawks advance to Sunday’s game, University of Hartford students will again be able to attend for free.
Anyone wishing to purchase tickets for the semifinal or championship games should stop by the Athletics Box Office in the Sports Center, call the box office at 860.768.4295, or order tickets online at www.hartfordhawks.com.
Following the Games
If you want to follow the action but you can't attend the tournament, you can still keep up with the Hawks. Any games in which the Hartford women play will be broadcast live on WWUH radio (91.3 FM) or www.wwuh.org.
Both the semifinal and championship round games will be televised live on FOX Sports New England.
In addition, you can get live statistics for all the tournament games on the America East website, at www.americaeast.com.
