Freshman striker Elise Galipo opened up her collegiate career with the Hartford Hawks in impressive form, finishing the first two games of the season with a goal and two assists and earning America East Rookie of the Week honors.

Galipo's rookie distinction is the first for the Hawks since October 25, 2010, when Lizzy Clarke earned the honor in the final week of the regular season. Galipo's four points currently leads the Hawks overall, while her single goal ties three other players who have all recorded one tally.

The Nutmeg State native came off the bench to score the lone Hawks' goal in the season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson. She followed that performance by helping the Hawks in all three of their goals against Old Dominion en route to a 3-2 victory, their first of the season. The rookie recorded a pair of assists in the game while being dragged down in the box in the 77th minute to earn the second of two penalty kicks, which led to the game-winning goal scored by senior Caroline Dixon.

Galipo and the women's soccer team continue a five-game homestand on Friday, August 31, when UHart hosts Yale at 7 p.m. at Alumni Stadium. For more information or to purchase tickets, contact the Malcolm and Brenda Berman Athletics Ticket Office at 860.768.HAWK (4295).
