Basketball Schedules Announced
Both the men's and women's basketball schedules have been released for the 2012-13 season.
The men's schedule includes 29 total games, including 14 home contests. The Hawks have 13 non-conference games, highlighted by six home games and pair of opponents never faced before in the program's 28-year Division I era in Rice and Arizona State.
"Obviously we have a challenging non-conference schedule in front of us,” head coach John Gallagher says. “Quinnipiac, Sacred Heart, Central Connecticut and Yale are all quality in-state teams who each have the ability to finish in the top half of their leagues come March. Having such great competition within the boundaries of one state can really help improve our in-state college basketball community.
The women's basketball team will play a 29-game slate in 2012-13. Highlighting the Hawks' schedule will be 15 home contests, including a date with national powerhouse UConn at the Chase Arena at Reich Family Pavilion. The away schedule features a first-ever matchup with Vanderbilt and a trip to College Park, Maryland, to compete in the University of Maryland's holiday tournament in late December.
"This year's non-conference schedule offers us everything we look for in November and December–great competition, and with seven home games, an opportunity to showcase our veteran team to our fans early in the season,” says head coach Jen Rizzotti. “As has been our tradition, we've challenged ourselves early with four or five potential Top 25 opponents in the first two months of the season.
